Fight Night 7 (Fighting Inferno)
Beachcomber Holiday Park
November 8th 2009
Grimsby Evening Telegraph
Fight night 7, the biggest martial arts fight event in the area, began with a tribute to the troops, from the Lincs area, who recently lost their lives in Afghanistan followed by a tribute to Tony Charnock, from the Grimsby Area, who was murdered recently in Spain and lastly to all the troops who had fought and lost their lives for the country. After the 1 minutes silence the show began in earnest to a packed house.
The clubs taking part in this Fight Night were Impact Gym(Sleaford), Fudoshin (Newark), Lincoln Black Dragons (Lincoln), BCKA (Louth),Woodys Gym (Grimsby) and lastly the hosts Grimsby Martial Arts Academy (Grimsby). All of which we would like to pass on our thanks.
The first fight was a light continuous contest which set the scene for the whole night. Both lads fought well but Ben Horsewood (GMAA) took the win in what was his debut fight. The night progressed with some excellent contests, Jake Garside (BCKA) v Richard Bourne (Impact) gave the audience a taste of how a kick boxing fight should be fought with both fighters throwing some excellent kicks as was the case with Karl Trice (Fudoshin) V Zak Ward (Impact), again both fighters showing very good technical ability. The ladies fight nearly brought the house down with Michelle Barnes (Woodys) giving Karen Bailey (Impact) a very hard fight though all through the fight Karen was throwing some hard shots of her own including some good technical head kicks. A draw being a fair result.
The third fight of the night, Mathew Marek (GMAA) v Mike Boston (Impact), was a Memorial Fight in memory of Tony Charnock who was tragically killed on holiday earlier this year. The trophy was presented to the winner of the bout by his daughters and his brother.
As the evening came to a close the final fight of the night between Nick Horsewood (GMAA) v Phil Henton (Impact). This was a rematch from earlier in the year in which Nick had previously won. After a very good contest Nick came out the winner again and made it a second win for the Horsewood family that night with his brother already winning in the first fight.
The Grimsby Martial Arts Academy would like to thank all those clubs and coaches who were involved along with all the helpers and staff. The next fight night will be taking place around May 2010 at the Beachcomber holiday park and more information about this and the club times can be found at www.gmaa.co.uk or come along to the 2 storey gym in Kent Street Grimsby, next to the Evening telegraph, Mon-Thur 6-8.00pm.
